Mayor Lee Proclaims “San Francisco Giants Pride Week”
City Celebrating National League Champion Giants, Advancing to World Series with Orange & Black
Posted Date: 10/23/2012
Mayor Edwin M. Lee today has officially proclaimed it “San Francisco Giants Pride Week,” beginning Wednesday, October 24th and continuing through the end of the World Series, to urge San Francisco Giants fans around the City and beyond to celebrate the hometown team after they clinched the National League Championship title and advanced to the World Series. The World Series begins on Wednesday, October 24th at AT&T Park on the home field of the National League Champion San Francisco Giants.

“Capturing the National League pennant and advancing to the World Series, the San Francisco Giants have put the ‘Orange’ in Orange October,” said Mayor Lee. “Let’s show our Giants pride in our schools, our businesses and in our homes to celebrate their quest to bring the World Series Championship back home to San Francisco. Go Giants!”

Mayor Lee is urging Giants fans and local businesses to show their pride in the National League Champion team by wearing the Orange & Black or displaying signs, flags or any form of support for the hometown team.

In a show of civic pride, the San Francisco Giants flag will continue to fly over City Hall. City Hall and Coit Tower will remain Orange for Orange October and will soon be joined by the Ferry Building, the War Memorial, the Opera House and the City’s Official Tree in front of McLaren Lodge. The San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, the Golden Gate Restaurant Association, and the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) are also joining in the show of Giants pride. The Embarcadero Center, the TransAmerica Pyramid, and other San Francisco buildings will soon be lit in Giants Orange.

SF Environment will also distribute reusable Giants Orange canvas bags during San Francisco Giants Pride Week in select merchant corridors.

As the Giants begin the World Series, Mayor Lee and the San Francisco Giants urge all fans to treat each other with respect. Wherever fans choose to watch the game – AT&T Park or elsewhere – be safe and practice good sportsmanship. Rivalries should remain on the field.
